Summary: We like to watch this part, don’t we precious? Master sits up and he puts his mouth on Sam-hobbit’s neck and Sam-hobbit makes a hundred little sounds like hurting, and he begs, yes, he begs to the Master. We can pretend they are real biteses, can’t we? We can pretend Sam-hobbit bleeds and dies from biteses, and won’t be cruel to poor Smeagol ever again.
My thoughts:
Alright, I need to get up off my arse and write. Oddly enough I got more done during vacation than I did after I got home. Just need to clean up the notes and post them. Which begs the question, why haven’t I done that yet….
But this–this is an easy rec. The Gollum voice is so spot on I’m kind of afraid to listen to the podfic version. I feel like it might scar me for life. Reading it, I can appreciate the words, but hearing it–yeah, not sure. That might be too intense for me to handle.
The language here is gorgeous. Poor Gollum is simultaneously pitiable and terrifying–even mid-sentence, he can change.
We could make poor Master easy, let him rest, yes we could, our handses just squeeze a little bit on his neck. We could, precious, oh we could. We could.
And then we’d have the Precious again.
Gah, terrifying. Also some of the eroticism here–god, I really shouldn’t be picturing Gollum and eroticism in the same thought, even though we’re reminded that, long before he was twisted by the horror of the ring, he was a being who loved as well–is just sweet and sad. Everything is couched in metaphor, but it’s still oh-so-obvious that both Gollum and the reader know what’s going on.
There’s also the underlying issues of addiction and just–how it can warp your perceptions. It’s just–everything in this fic is simultaneously alluring and poetic and dark and disgusting all at once. Just the combination is exquisite. It’s a really fine line to tread, and this author does it excellently.
