Title: The Best Laid Plans Will Get You Laid
Author: Tatau
Fandom: Due South
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Ben/RayK, Ben/RayK/Mark
Warnings: explicit sex (gay), threesome
Other notes: fantasies
Length: 6k
Summary: Ray’s brain-to-mouth-filter was never working that good, so when he suddenly blurts out during sex that he gets turned on by imagining Fraser and another guy - and makes Fraser come all over himself without even laying a finger on him - that fantasy does seem a whole lot more possible all of a sudden.
When Mark Smithbauer suddenly stands in front of their apartment, unannounced, Ray comes up with a plan.
Pretty sure I got this off deputychairman. Thank you, dear. It is quite lovely porn, perfect for my week of being brain dead.
But, even though I say “just porn,” it does actually make me think about issues surrounding monogamy, and how people view attraction to people other than their partner. I’ve had–interesting experiences, you could say. I’m bisexual, and people seem to equate that with “cannot be monogamous.” Which isn’t true. I’ve always thought of a monogamous relationship as meaning, ‘while I am still attracted to a wide variety of people, I have chosen only to act on it with this one person.’ To me, that seems like the most obvious explanation–you don’t stop being attracted to movie stars because you’ve gotten married. I don’t stop finding other men and women attractive, but I choose to be with my partner. This doesn’t connect for some people.
Now, sometimes you get situations like the one presented in this fic, where both partners express a desire to have someone join them. I’d personally still see Fraser and Ray as being monogamous, though–they both agree to a one-night stand with Mark, and they ultimately still want to be with each other most of all. Now, this I can see some people disagreeing with, and I get that. I guess “flexible monogamy” would be a better term, or “monogamy with mutually-agreed up exceptions.” I had a friend who liked to say “shared open relationship.”
You know what I just realized? People like to make a big deal out of the moment when a relationship turns two people into a unit–the first time you start considering things as a 'we,’ as 'ours.’ In an odd way, this sort of consent is the same way–RayK and Fraser, as a pair, agree to the threesome. Again, it’s that idea of them starting as a couple and remaining as a couple. Having sex with another person doesn’t change that they are a couple, which is probably why I still see it as a monogamous relationship.
I feel like I’m chatting in circles. Still. Hot porn.
