Summary: Purged of all his souls, Castiel is a changed being, stronger than an angel and too powerful for Jimmy’s body to contain. Happily, there’s an archangel’s vessel on hand, and he could use fixing, too. Dean isn’t too happy about the idea of his brother acting as a vessel for Castiel, and Sam can guess why, but it isn’t until Castiel gets inside his head and they learn to share the vessel – and their thoughts – that Sam realises Cas is as in love with Dean as Dean is with him. It’s unfortunate that there’s nothing much to be done about it now, but Castiel will get another vessel soon. The Winchesters will make damn sure of that. In the meantime, it’s up to the three of them to establish their own strange accord, and Dean realises more fully than ever that it’s Castiel, and not his vessel, that he loves.

it’s always kind of weird when I find fics that line up completely by accident. Obviously I do tend to post similar fics together, but a lot of that comes from browsing through my bookmarks and purposefully making connections. This time, it just happened that I found a random demon Stiles fic I enjoyed that involved body swapping, and some time later, I was rec'ced this Supernatural fic that also has to do with possession issues. Funny, that.

Granted, it’s two different flavors of angst. Getting stuck with your lover in the same body and being unable to touch is somewhat different from having your lover stuck into someone else’s body and being unable to touch. I’m getting sudden flashbacks to an episode of Star Trek Next Gen, one involving the Trills, a race comprised of a symbiote and a host, where the symbiote can change host bodies and–well, that led to complications, we’ll say.

This actually goes along with the theme I had going earlier this week–the idea of how you can love someone when they’ve changed ages or experiences or, in this case, bodies. That’s angsty enough, and then you add in that, it’s not just Cas in another body, it’s the body of Dean’s brother, and, oh, by the way, the brother is still awake and active. The angst is quite ripe here, full of UST and that wonderful, terrible, “I can’t touch you but I want to and we’re so, so close.” At least in this fic there’s a good reason, rather than the usual “I hate myself/I’m not good enough/he’ll never love me” emotional constipation. The scene where Dean and Castiel are crossing the line from safe, innocent touches to this raw sexuality they both want but they can’t have is just delicious.

Long before I ever read Supernatural fic, I kind of knew the fandom’s reputation, which was “anything goes.” I used to hear horror stories about how completely kinky and out there the fic was. People swear that A/B/O/omegaverse started there. And, of course, I knew people shipped the brothers together.

So, I must admit, I was a little surprised that incest aversion is one of the main topics in this fic–at least for the main story. The AU side-story goes the full threesome route, which is honestly what I was expecting to happen. I must have spent too long in fandom–incest and threesomes solve everything. I mean, in real life–yeah, I do not want to imagine anything even remotely similar to this involving my siblings. Major do not want. But in fic, eh….that’s different. Kind of sad when a fic has to remind you to be squicked out by incest.

But, that said, I actually like both scenarios–I like the angst of the main story and I like the threesome love in the side story. This fic is very much a case of getting your cake and eating it too.
