Summary: One evening, Hisoka decided that waiting outside imagining things was pretty stupid, too.

 

This is one of the more awkward sex scenes I’ve read, and yet it works. Now, it’s not awkward as in badly written, no–the events are awkward, intimate, and then awkward again.

And I like that. I like that I had to sit there and thinking, wait, what’s going on here? This isn’t the usual sex scene I read. The amount of passion and intimacy given over to finger-sucking and watching someone jerk off–under the covers, even–is nice. It’s just nice to see some power and meaning given over to, well, acts that usually considered “full-on” or “real” sex. I like a good fucking scene, of course, but a lot of people still treat that like the be-all end-all of sex, so when I come across scenes like this, it’s so much more interesting.

I also like that it gets into some of the issues of how love can warp your perceptions, for good or bad. Through his empathy, Hisoka “sees” himself the way Tsuzuki sees him, and part of him scoffs at it (he can’t really look that golden, that gorgeous) and yet part of him is amazed, because he can feel Tsuzuki’s love and affection and joy. Surely I can’t be the only person who occasionally has that feeling of, “wait, really, other people see me like that? What. Why. How.”? Anyway, it was a short bit, but it always caught my eye.
