Summary: Fraser and Ray do a little swinging.
There’s a wonderful amount of momentum to this story. We start in media res with the conundrum of the fountain swimmers–a nice little taste of the random weirdness that goes down in their police station–and segue into an undercover sting operation that manages to be both tense and comedic.
I like that this is a fic that’s really respectful of Ray. There are plenty of fics where Ray sees Fraser as this perfect specimen of humanity and puts himself down for (and even a decent chunk of the reverse), but in this fic it seems much more positive. It’s Fraser coming to realize how skilled Ray is at undercover work. Fraser doesn’t angst too badly or put himself down too much, but he does come to see that Ray has a wholly different set of skills.
In fact, it’s the fact that both of them are terribly competent and have the devil’s luck that ends up getting them in trouble. They do their job too well.
Also, I love this line:
Even the almost imperceptible weight of the bead-chain circling the base of his throat made him feel strangely … oversensitized. Of course that might have something to do with the fact that it had come off Ray’s wrist.
Anyway, it’s a fun little romp of a fic.
