Title: Letter for Letter
Author: triedunture
Fandom: Jeeves and Wooster
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Jeeves/Wooster
Warnings: sexually explicit dialogue…since technically they don’t ave sex in the story (‘warning: no actual sex occurs’?), references to James Joyce’s love letters (if you don’t think that needs a warning, you haven’t read them), some discussion of infidelity (more as a kink, but also some jealousy issues)
Other notes: long distance, epistolary fic,
Length: 4k
Summary: While apart for some time, Bertie and Jeeves agree to write each other dirty letters.
My thoughts:
Every English major reads James Joyce’s love letters at some point. It’s the freaking Ark of the Covenant. Whenever someone says, for the love of god, don’t read this, of course you do.
That said, while they are really kinky and explicit, they’re also so damn loving and gushing (bad pun) that, while I laugh and perpetuate the joking warnings, they actually are worth a read. The man loved the hell out of his wife. He just expresses that love alongside passionate descriptions of exactly how he wants to fuck her. And–honestly, most of the fanfiction I rec is exactly the same mixture of characters passionately showing their love and then having crazy kinky sex, so it’s not like I can really shame Joyce for writing the exact same thing.
And, well…screw it, I’ve written explicit stuff to my SOs in the past. Technically, if you count fic, I’ve written explicit stuff for my friends, too. We do have a tendency to gift each other with smut in fandom, don’t we?
At any rate, this is quite hot, because Jeeves–quiet, straight-laced, stoic Jeeves–is finally coaxed into letting his filthiest thoughts out, and it is amazing. Again, I admit to a deep feeling of empathy, as I am considered the quiet one in my group of friends, and also–well, read the preceding paragraph: quiet one and purveyor of fine smut. There’s something…. I dunno, I work retail, so I have to be so polite and bland all day, and it’s just so funny to me, because my thoughts are so ~shocking~ when other people start to realize I’m not nearly so polite and bland outside of being socially presentable. Like Bob Saget, I am a filthy, filthy person.
I also like that this is an established relationship, and yet both of them are still learning new things about the other, still getting comfortable with the things they feel guilt and reticence over. Isn’t it always lovely to read a fic–or, better, actually experience in real life that someone else is in to the same things you are? Especially if it’s something you’re embarrassed about. Like a kink, or a fandom.
Why am I comparing kinks to fandom in every paragraph? Ah, well, it’s an apt comparison. And this is an apt fic to talk about that in.
