Summary: “Stiles knew damn well what a pissed-off wolf sounded like, and every hair on the back of his neck was telling him that somewhere in this room was a very pissed-off werewolf.” An AU in which Derek is feral, Stiles is magical, and they eat a lot of fast food.

I had unexpected free time and a lot of fic recs to write, so what do I do? Open a ton of fics to read so I can avoid, you know, actual work.

80k words? Perfect distraction.

The fact that this ended up being an absolutely perfect follow up to Lock All The Doors Behind You was just serendipity.

This rec can be summed up in a single, amazing recipe: take one part heart-pounding meeting-while-imprisoned, one part extreme sexual tension, and, in a wonderful addition, one part okay, now that we’ve passed through this incredibly intense experience together, how are we going to make this relationship work in the real world.

Just…dude. The third part of this fic makes it spectacular. I could have lived with this being a story about these two characters surviving together and wrecking some vengeance on the asshole who imprisoned them, but that last third act–that is where my heart was pounding the most, because you want them to stay together, and it’s making a long-term relationship that’s the hard part.

The more I enjoy a fic, the less I can actually write about it, because the flailing takes over. Um, I still love magic-user Stiles, and–just the small details about him. His instinctive need to use his powers as easily as breathing, the way he pockets common things like salt and copper coins to try and find a way to make a spell–or a makeshift, totally non-magical pepper bomb, the way he works as a sort of magical handyman, fixing people’s problems. I like this person and this world and this type of magic use.

Derek–I feel bad, because I keep reading all these fics where Derek is mute and disabled. I should try and find something from his point of view, even things out. Although there is something to the contrast between Derek as a very physical presence, where Stiles is more mental, I guess? Stiles talks and talks and talks and you are so far into his brain it’s kind of mesmerizing, while Derek gets to be the one with body language and intuition and such. Ah, I do want to get into Derek’s brain, though.

I just freaking love the third section, all glory to the authors for that third section–the part that comes after the movie ends and the heroes bust out and it should be happily ever after, but humans (and werewolves) are just too complicated for things to come that easily.
